Nestled in the shade of sun bleached gums on the banks of the picturesque Swan River, St Vincent’s Day Therapy provides individualised physiotherapy occupational therapy and podiatry services to individuals who reside in aged care hostels or within the community.
The Day Therapy program is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and aims to improve and maintain the physical, cognitive and social well being of all our clients. All clients attend therapy sessions based on their individual needs and capabilities as assessed by our health professionals, to enable them to remain as independent as possible. Programs are tailored to suit their individual needs and living requirements and delivered in either small group sessions and/or one-to-one.
All our services are centre-based. Occupational Therapy services combines group sessions for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and general well-being. Small specific groups and individual sessions are designed to concentrate on enhancing cognitive, fine and gross motor skills. Physiotherapy services combines small group and specific individually based sessions concentrating on the areas of balance, mobility and falls prevention. Podiatry services are all individually based sessions geared to personal requirements of clients.
We continue to increase our focus on individual needs of clients with their Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy plans having a strong focus in the areas of exercise and balance, to reduce falls and maintain mobility and independence.
We also have a strong emphasis on Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to try and improve our clients’ self confidence and independence through such activities as meal preparation, personal care to maintain their levels of capability.
Our ongoing relationship with the Alzheimer’s’ Association of WA continues with us providing facilities for our clients full time carers to meet to discuss their individual experiences and support one another. These meetings also provide the opportunity to discuss concerns or discover new resources through meeting with educators and representatives from the association.
We offer the same support to our increasing number of Parkinson’s sufferers and their carers. The services are available 4 days per week - Monday to Thursday. Podiatry services are available to each individual client, delivered by our Podiatrist every four to five weeks on a Wednesday . Referrals have increased and current indications are that this trend will continue. This is a very popular service with community clients.
