Reading is a passion for many of the residents at Servite in Joondanna, with both reading group meetings and regular visits from Stirling Library, which delivers books every other week.
Delma Worthington spends much of her spare time reading and says she finds it both educational and relaxing, especially as she focusses on factual books, historical novels and autobiographies.
“I like reading about times past because it takes you back to how they used to live and what they had to put up with,” she says.In a recent reading group meeting the residents reminisced about the Arnott’s Biscuits. Resident, Margery Whiteley, used to work at the original factory in Homebush NSW and told us that there was a special train that took staff especially from Sydney to the factory.
The group decided their favourite biscuit was the infamous Tim Tam, and hadn’t known that it was named by the owner of Arnott’s after a horse named Tim Tam that won the Kentucky Derby in 1958.
