Aged Care Reform Start Date Delayed to 1 November 2025
The Australian Government has announced that the new Aged Care Act, originally scheduled to commence on 1 July 2025, will now take effect from 1 November 2025.
This delay follows sector-wide feedback calling for more time to prepare older Australians, support aged care workers, and finalise key systems and processes.
The reforms are part of a once-in-a-generation overhaul of the aged care system, designed to improve quality, strengthen rights, and ensure older people are at the centre of care planning and delivery.
What does the delay mean for you?
We welcome the additional time to ensure a smooth transition. We will use this period to:
- Provide clients and families with updated information and support
- Finalise training and preparation for staff
- Ensure all operational and digital systems are ready
Importantly, there is no change to the care you currently receive. Our team will continue to deliver the same high-quality, compassionate service you have come to know and trust.
Why has the government delayed the Act?
In an open letter to older Australians, the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, the Hon Sam Rae MP, said the delay will help “ensure older people accessing home care services continue to receive safe, quality care and have the time to understand the Support at Home changes.”
The Government will also use the time to finalise aged care rules in Parliament, complete guidance materials, and refine digital systems to support providers and clients through the transition.
We are fully supportive of this revised timeline and remain committed to keeping you informed at every step through our Aged Care Reform Hub and your Case Manager.
You will continue to receive the same compassionate, quality care you know and trust.
