Catholic Homes Supports World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2025
On 15 June, Catholic Homes joins the global community in observing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). This year’s theme, Beyond Age, challenges us to recognise the rich diversity of ageing experiences and to stand against all forms of elder abuse.
Elder abuse can be subtle or overt, ranging from financial exploitation to emotional neglect. Alarmingly, recent studies indicate that nearly 15% of Australians over 65 have experienced some form of abuse in the past year.
At Catholic Homes, our commitment to Love, Joy, and Hospitality drives us to educate ourselves and others about the signs and prevention of elder abuse and take proactive steps to protect the rights and dignity of older individuals.
Throughout our facilities, staff and residents are engaging in activities to raise awareness and participating in educational events.
If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, support is available. Please consider reaching out to these support services for assistance.
