Celebrating Our Lady, Star of the Sea | Ocean Star’s Feast Day Tradition

Our work is guided by compassion, dignity, and a deep spiritual connection to those we serve. Nowhere is this more beautifully reflected than in our annual celebration of the Feast of Our Lady, Star of the Sea at Ocean Star in Bunbury.

Held on Wednesday, 28th May, the feast day began with a special Mass by Father Pierre in honour of Mary, who is known as a symbol of guidance, comfort, and unwavering light, especially for those at sea and those facing the storms of life. Following Mass, residents, staff, and guests gathered for a relaxed morning tea in the Wellness Lounge, overlooking the coastline.

Ocean Star has long been a beacon of care and community in the South West. From its beginnings in 1964 as a 22-bed hospital to the opening of the residential facility in 1982, the site has grown alongside the region’s needs.

Today, Ocean Star continues to embody the spirit of its namesake as a place of refuge and guidance, where the values of joy, love and hospitality shine through in every act of care.

As we reflect on Mary’s enduring example, we celebrate the dedicated staff, volunteers, and residents who make Ocean Star a sanctuary of peace and purpose.
