Honouring a Legacy of Service | The Goyder Family’s ANZAC Story
This ANZAC Day, Catholic Homes pays tribute to the extraordinary lives and service of Judith and Ian Goyder OAM — a remarkable couple who have shared 73 years of marriage and have been part of our Trinity community for several years.
Ian served as a signaller in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, a role that was vital in maintaining communications under challenging and often dangerous conditions. His wartime service forms part of a broader family legacy of dedication and sacrifice for our country. Judith’s father also answered the call to serve — as part of the 10th Light Horse Regiment, a renowned WA unit that fought at Gallipoli during WWI.
For Ian, ANZAC Day is deeply personal. It is a solemn and sacred opportunity to remember those who fought bravely — the men and women who never returned, and those who came home bearing the physical and emotional scars of conflict.
“ANZAC Day is a time to pause and reflect on the lives lost and the lives changed. It’s pleasing to see more young people showing interest, participating in services and learning about our history. It gives me hope,” Ian said.
A proud former member of the Northbridge RSL, Ian has long been part of the veteran community. It is passionate about preserving the stories, values, and traditions of service, sacrifice, and mateship. His reflections remind us that while times change, the spirit of ANZAC endures — carried forward by each generation that chooses to remember.
On behalf of everyone at Catholic Homes, we thank Ian, Judith, and their family for sharing their story. This ANZAC Day, and every day, we honour those who have served and continue to serve our country.
Lest We Forget.
