Honouring the Life and Legacy of St Vincent de Paul at St Vincent’s Residential Aged Care

On Wednesday, 24 September, staff, residents, and visitors at St Vincent’s Residential Aged Care came together to celebrate the Feast of St Vincent de Paul, a day that honours the enduring legacy of compassion, social justice, and service to those in need.

The celebration began with a beautiful morning Mass and cake blessing led by Fr. Arulraj, setting a reflective and joyful tone for the day. This was followed by a shared morning tea and a luncheon, bringing together the community in the spirit of unity and care.

In tribute to St Vincent’s mission, residents created heartfelt hand- and heart-shaped cut-outs featuring personal wishes, meaningful quotes, and stories of times they had helped others. These creative expressions were displayed as symbols of faith, kindness, and shared purpose. Residents also crafted bookmarks as gifts for attendees, small but meaningful tokens that reflect the values of compassion and service that St Vincent championed.

Born in France in 1581, St Vincent de Paul dedicated his life to supporting the poor and marginalised. He founded the Congregation of the Mission and co-founded the Daughters of Charity, and was canonised in 1737. Today, he is recognised as the patron saint of charitable societies, and his legacy continues to inspire the work carried out at St Vincent’s.

On behalf of the executive team who attended, we extend our sincere thanks to the residents and staff for warmly welcoming us into your home and allowing us to be part of this special day. This celebration was a powerful reminder of St Vincent’s lasting influence and the importance of caring for those most in need.
