Ocean Star Shines at the 2025 LiveLighter Aged Care Games

Our Ocean Star residents recently participated in the 18th annual LiveLighter Aged Care Games in Bunbury, proudly representing Catholic Homes in an event that brought together aged care communities across the region.

The Aged Care Games, run by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA, give seniors living in residential care, receiving home care, or attending day centres the chance to enjoy teamwork, connection and a touch of friendly competition. These games have been a cherished community tradition since 2003 and are a highlight on the aged care calendar.

This year, our team of eight residents trained weekly in the lead-up to the event, practising Pass Ball, Hockey, Skittles and Bean Bag Toss. With support from our PTA and staff, the team prepared their vibrant hot pink Ocean Star shirts and decorated their station with banners, tablecloths and plenty of stars to match their enthusiasm!

While Opal Bunbury Gardens took first place, our team’s energy and joy were unbeatable. The Pass Ball event stole the show, with residents laughing, cheering, and showing incredible team spirit. The bond formed through training and competing together is something truly special, and you’d never guess we didn’t win, judging by the excitement on the day!

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Bunbury Branch of the Seniors Recreation Council, along with local volunteers, South West TAFE students, and the many community members who helped make the day a success.

Congratulations to our residents and staff on a wonderful effort – you’ve made us proud!
