Shirley’s Big Day at the LiveLighter Aged Care Games

There was no shortage of colour, laughter, and community spirit when Catholic Homes residents from Sister Mary Glowrey, Archbishop Goody, and St Vincent’s took part in the 2025 LiveLighter Aged Care Games at Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, presented by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA.

The Games give older people in care the chance to enjoy team participation, friendly competition, and social connection through adapted games, and this year, Catholic Homes teams made their mark. St Vincent’s won Best Dressed, Sister Mary Glowrey claimed third place, and Archbishop Goody brought plenty of enthusiasm to the arena.

For Shirley from Sister Mary Glowrey, it was an unforgettable experience. Having never participated in anything like this before, she embraced the opportunity with open arms. Her family were so proud they were talking about her efforts in the family group chat, and Shirley returned home with not only great memories but new friendships—meeting residents from other floors for the first time.

Shirley’s daughter Denise shared her appreciation, “The feedback and photos brought tears to my eyes and made my heart swell in thanks to you all. It seems all who attended and participated enjoyed themselves immensely.”

Her son and daughter-in-law, Meg and Bryan, agreed, “It was wonderful to see everyone having a great time, competing and socialising with one another.”

The day was a celebration of fun, friendship, and community, the very things Catholic Homes strives to nurture every day.
