State award recognition for passionate Chef Youri

Chef Youri Choi took out the Institute of Hospitality In HeathCare’s (IHHC) Brightest Star Award at the Western Australia branch’s awards ceremony on Friday night.

Catholic Homes Chief Executive Paul Andrew congratulated Ms Choi, saying that her passion to create high quality cuisine, which is enjoyable and nutritious, is the cornerstone of the best possible life for everyone in aged care.

“As the 2020 WA Brightest Star, Youri has displayed great potential and enthusiasm in her role where she has continuously provided excellent service delivered with love and respect,” he said.

Ms Choi commenced with Catholic Homes in 2016 as a kitchen support worker at Archbishop Goody Residential Care. After time in chef-relief roles she was this month appointed as Chef to Servite Residential Care and was delighted with the win.

“I provide the food that is giving people joy and when I see them, they feel love and are cared for,” she said.

“I want people to enjoy their life, that’s why I want to keep cooking and going forward.”

Mr Andrew said the organisation was building a solid reputation for quality in hospitality and food service, following multiple previous awards from IHHC and OSCAR.

“Awards are an important way to promote, recognise and honour excellent individuals, teams and organisations who work in vital care, hospitality and food service support areas in aged care,” he said.

“Our workforce does incredible work each day, every day of the year that directly benefits the whole community and the people we serve in their own homes, in residential care and in independent living.”

Catholic Homes’ catering department has been recognised for excellence many times, taking out several IHHC and OSCAR hospitality awards.

Most recently our Chef Parween Ramsahye was named Brightest Star and Manager Hospitality Services Carey Bray won the IHHC’s Leadership Award at the nationals in 2019.

The IHHC awards were presented at the Western Australia Sub-Branch award ceremony on Friday 20 November 2020.
