Catholic Archbishop of Perth message

Amidst the ever-evolving landscape of Catholic aged care, I reflect upon the transformative journey Catholic Homes has undertaken in the past 12 months as it continues to make Jesus Christ present through faith, practice and an embrace of Jesus’ teachings.

In the face of challenges and changes, Catholic Homes has steadfastly upheld its Christ-centered mission, offering solace, empowerment, human dignity, and hope to all those entrusted to its care.

Throughout the previous year, the elderly members of our community, who are among the most vulnerable, have been safeguarded from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the remarkable staff and volunteers at Catholic Homes, who have tirelessly worked to ensure the safety and well-being of their clients and residents.

Our people continue to demonstrate remarkable consistency, fostering an environment of positivity while embodying the essence of Jesus’ teachings in their interactions with clients and residents.

Catholic Homes’ pursuit of high-quality care has been a guiding force in ensuring that its services not only meet but exceed the community’s expectations for quality and safety.

Of note is the blessing and opening of the new Sister Mary Glowrey residence and the expansion of home care services to the community. Sr Dr Mary Glowrey’s life and ministry as both a medical doctor and religious sister reflected her deep desire to listen for the Word of God, however it came to her, so that she might respond to it generously, and in service of the Gospel, no matter what it asked of her.

The continued accreditation of its services and the development of the people, systems, training and the enhancement of the workforce is a credit to Catholic Homes.

These achievements and many others are deeply rooted in an unwavering ethic of care that acknowledges and honours the intrinsic dignity and worth of each human life.

While change may bring uncertainty, Catholic Homes remains resolute in its dedication to providing solace and assistance to its residents and clients, while always respecting and upholding individuals’ dignity, choice and right to self-determination.

I extend my personal commendation to every member of the Catholic Homes community for their unyielding efforts and compassionate care, a testament to their commitment and unwavering spirit.

My heartfelt gratitude extends to the Board, executives, staff, and volunteers who have exhibited unparalleled dedication in serving those in your collective care.

It is through your tireless efforts that the true essence of respect, compassion, and care continues to thrive as the heart of Catholic Homes.

Most Rev Timothy Costelloe SDB
