Knitting for Remembrance Day

A knitting circle at Castledare Village in Wilson has been extremely productive and created a series of beautiful wreaths of red poppies for Remembrance Day.

The 5000 Poppies Project started a few months ago and members have been so productive the residents have sent a large delivery of the wreaths to Canberra for their Remembrance Service.

Lifestyle Facilitator, Kym Livermore, says it was a real team effort. “The ladies had four different patterns to follow and each featured very different levels of crocheting and knitting. Those that couldn’t help, sorted buttons for the centres and helped make the many cups of tea required to maintain energy levels!”

She added: “I'm very proud of the ladies and they knitted so quickly we decided to keep one of the beautiful wreaths for ourselves.”
